My name is Dr. Caleb Goh and I graduated with a BA in Drama from QUT (Australia), an MFA in Musical Theatre from SDSU (California), and a Ph.D. in Musical Theatre at WAAPA (Australia).

Hailing from Singapore, I worked professionally as an actor, singer, playwright, director and dancer in Singapore, California, and New York, in over eighty stage productions, a dozen television series, and four feature films. I have worked with numerous professional US theatre companies such as Moonlight Stage Productions, Lamb’s Players Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, San Diego Musical Theatre, Starlight Theatre, as well as over a dozen Singapore theatre companies including Theatreworks, W!ld Rice, Singapore Repertory Theatre, Toy Factory, The Finger Players, Dream Academy, The Necessary Stage, and Pangdemonium.

In 1995, I began my teaching career by educating children from the ages of three to eight years old in drama. I also taught acting and performance at the Singapore Armed Forces Music and Drama Company, during the years of 1999 to 2001. In 1998, I served as a radio DJ on the bilingual morning show on the popular Singaporean radio station Dongli 88.3FM.

From 2006-2012, I took on the position as the full-time drama, dance and musical theatre teacher, and glee club director at La Jolla Country Day School, in California. In 2012, the Caleb Goh Dance Award was named after me to honor my contribution to the dance and musical theatre curriculum at the school. The award continues to be given to a graduating senior annually.

In the past decade, I taught musical theatre at LaSalle – College of the Arts. I also directed and choreographed the musical theatre productions at the university and was also previously the artist-in-residence, mentor and musical theatre lecturer at the College of Alice and Peter Tan at NUS, both in Singapore.

In recent times, I was in the position of US drama program director at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School, in California, US director of theatre and speech at Poly Prep Country Day School, adjunct professor lecturing in musical theatre history and performance at SUNY Purchase College, and most recently held the position as artistic director of the Grace Theater Company, all in New York.

As a director, for the past two decades, I have directed over forty plays and musicals, and choreographed over twenty musicals, plays with music, and dance performances.

I frequently collaborate and present papers at the International Federation for Theatre Research (IFTR), the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE), the NAIS People of Color Conference (POCC), the Association for Asian Performance (AAP), and the Musical Theatre Educators' Alliance Conference (MTEA). Additionally, I published a Routledge article on Musical Theatre in Southeast Asia and am currently commissioned to work on another contribution on Fifty Musical Theatre Choreographers for Stage and Screen.
